How to Make Sure you get noticed on Dating Apps in Four Seconds

Although, dating apps can be a great way to find lots of dating quickly, the way other singles make decisions about each other’s suitably is must faster than when they use online dating sites.

Most apps focus purely on photos before anything else, so they if they aren’t attracted to that then they won’t go any further.  In fact, you only have four seconds to get their attention before they move on to the next person.

Here are my dating expert tips on how to get noticed, improve your chances and ultimately get more dates.

Tip One – Never Forget to Smile!

The most substantial thing that you absolutely have to do in your photo is smile. In the 4 seconds someone looks at it, they will be making a judgement about whether you are friendly, trustworthy and worth getting to know. In these seconds they will decide whether you are a threat or someone they might like to meet and to spend time with.

Positive people smile so make sure you do because there’s no point looking mean and moody or pouting as they’ll just move on to the next person.

Tip Two – Clothing is not Optional

Your clothing says so much about you and gives a lot of subliminal clues. You will, for instance, naturally look successful and powerful if you are wearing a suit in your main photo, while wearing a t-shirt with a funny slogan on will make you seem a little cheap and immature.

Guys, going topless to show off your pecs is not going to work either, since women appreciate brain before brawn.

Tip Three – No room for a group

Some people add a photo that shows them with a best friend or even a group of friends, and they obviously want everyone to think they are popular and have a large social circle. That is fine, but on the other hand, it can be really confusing for the person looking at it and make them wonder which one are you? What if they are more attracted to someone else in the image? They also might assume the person you are with is an ex partner, especially if they are of the opposite sex, and that is an impression you want to avoid.

Therefore, make sure the photos on your online dating profile show only you and you alone.

Tip Four -  No Selfies

One of the biggest turn offs, especially for women, is the good old “camera-phone in the mirror” selfie shot, as they look awful, unnatural and are the quickest way to guarantee you get rejected.

Instead of making the mistake of uploading a selfie, simply ask a friend to take the photo instead and you will get much better results.

Tip Five – Choose a Username Wisely

Right after they have seen your photo, the next thing people look at is your name or username, and it is only natural that they want to see a “label” to go with the face. So if you want to get noticed you have to make this count and be aware that anything scary, odd or too long is going to put people off.

There is no need to be too creative as the information will need to be understood right away. The best way to do this is just to use your real first name and then an adjective to describe yourself, for example Sporty Sue or Musical Mike are ideal. Your goal should be to make your username sound fun, playful and straight to the point.

I hope these tips have given you the chance to think about how you are coming across on dating sites.  If you’d like more advice about the best ways to find more dates, check out our advice section here.
