eharmony vs. EliteSingles In-Depth Comparison
Do Dating Apps Encourage a Hookup Culture?
Dating Apps are a relatively new and extremely easy way for singles to meet each other, chat and meet up. Some of them have the reputation of being more suitable for one-night-stands and hookups. But is this a fair criticism? Does this mean that dating apps are mostly for people looking for everything but a long-term relationship? As a Dating Coach, I can tell you that dating apps and dating sites provide one very important thing - opportunity. That’s the opportunity to connect with thousands of other singles who are looking to meet up. With such numbers, they’ll all be looking for different things. Some will want quick hook-ups, others will want something more meaningful and the majority will want something in between. It’s the same with any large crowd.
Spotting Serial Daters
Dating on dating apps can become a little disposable. It’s so quick and easy to talk to other people and then meet up, that it can result in singles not giving each other enough time and space to really get to know each other. If they aren’t completely convinced on a first date, they might not put the effort into a second one. After all, there are so many other people out there to meet next. For those who are only looking for fun, they might get bored easily and move on to the easiest target.
What you should keep in mind is that you can get whatever results you desire by using a dating app. I’m going to assume you want something serious, so that’s completely possible. You just have to stay in control and only meet up with people who want the same thing as you. There are three golden rules for making sure you keep focused:
Watch Out For The Warning Signals.
There are early, clear signs to tell if someone is just looking for hook-ups. They will be quite blatant about what they want and will compliment you on your appearance. Quite often, they will ask you to meet as quickly as possible and get irritated if you try to delay this and ask to chat for a while.
Talk on The Phone before You Meet.
The quickest way to rule out time wasters is to ask to speak on the phone rather than endless texting. It’s obviously much harder to hide your true intentions when you don’t have time to think through what you are going to say. Use the time on the phone to simply ask them what they are hoping to get out of a meeting and make sure they have honourable intentions.
If it’s Not Going How You’d Like – Move on.
If the person you are speaking to is getting too flirty or the conversation becomes inappropriate, just block them and talk to someone else instead. There are plenty more singles for you to get to know, so filter out the wrong types as soon as possible. Remember, dating apps are fun and can lead to relationships. It’s up to you to use them to get what you are looking for.
